The correctional court of Béziers (Hérault) sentenced Friday a man of 25 years to four years of imprisonment, including six months suspended, to which is added a year in prison due to the revocation of a suspended sentence, for having committed serious violence against his mother's fiancé, on August 22, 2018, in Béziers.

While his mother's engagement party was taking place, this man, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, had hit his companion with a butcher's chopper, said Raphaël Balland, the public prosecutor of Béziers. He also punched and kicked her. The victim had lost consciousness.

Facts reclassified as aggravated violence

Arrested by the police, the man was taken into police custody, then charged with the count of attempted murder and placed in pre-trial detention.

The facts had finally been classified as aggravated violence, and the intention to kill had not been retained after the investigation. The man was kept in detention.
