The warring parties in Libya have announced acceptance of a humanitarian ceasefire, allowing to cope with any possible spread of the Corna virus in areas where armed clashes have taken place for nearly a year.

The United Nations Mission in Libya and the United States welcomed the decision of the Libyan Presidential Council, Fayez al-Sarraj, to agree to an immediate humanitarian cessation of hostilities, in order to allow local authorities to respond to the unprecedented public health challenge posed by the spread of the Corona virus.

The State Department said in a statement that all Libyan leaders must give urgent priority to the health of their people, and this is the only responsible thing that must be done now.

The ministry's spokesperson called on retired Major General Khalifa Haftar to respond to this challenge and suspend military operations on his part.

It also called for the rejection of foreign intervention, which it said exacerbates matters, and renewed the United States' rejection of military escalation and support for political dialogue.

Hifter welcomes the truce and bombs the capital
For his part, Haftar forces spokesman Ahmed Al-Mismari announced that he agreed to a cease-fire in response to the humanitarian call to confront the virus, as he put it.

Al-Mismari said that Haftar welcomes the United Nations and Western and Arab countries to a humanitarian truce in Libya, to focus on efforts to combat Corona.

Haftar's new position came days after his forces' attempt to advance in several axes south of the Libyan capital failed.

Although he welcomed a humanitarian truce to confront Corona, today, Haftar militias launched a missile attack on civilian neighborhoods in the capital, Tripoli.

Muhammad Qanunu, spokesman for the internationally recognized al-Wefaq government forces, reported that two children were wounded by a shell fired by Haftar militias at their home in the Bab Bin Ghashir area, according to the Facebook page of the "Burkan Anger" operation on Facebook.

Kanounou added that "the indiscriminate shelling of Tripoli came shortly after the deceptive announcement of the spokesman for the war criminal Hifter on a false cease-fire."

As of Saturday evening, no case of HIV infection or even suspected case had been officially announced in Libya.

Night curfew
On the other hand, the Presidential Council of the National Accord Government decided on Saturday to announce a night curfew starting from Sunday to prevent corona from reaching the country.

In a statement, the council indicated that the ban starts from six in the evening until six in the morning, provided that the ban period is adjusted according to the requirements of the crisis.

The decision included a complete closure throughout the day of mosques, educational institutions, cafes, restaurants and halls of social events, and prohibited the use of mass transportation, with the exception of shops, bakeries and gas stations during the period of permitting roaming.

In reality, the curfew will be applied in the areas of control of the Al-Wefaq government stationed in the capital, Tripoli, and the western regions of Libya, and some areas in the south that are administratively subject to them.
