The patriarch expressed the view that an epidemic can help people understand that human civilization is in a great crisis, “associated with self-confidence and pride.”
“The Lord calls on our self-confident technological civilization, which believes that everything is accessible and possible for it, to evaluate its capabilities and realize the fragility of this civilization ... so that we, without losing spiritual optimism, understand that God needs everything,” he added.
