Secretary of State for Ecological Transition Emmanuelle Wargon announced Sunday that she had been diagnosed with the coronavirus, becoming the third member of the government to be affected by the disease.
"I was diagnosed positive at Covid-19 that day. I have only mild symptoms at this point," the secretary of state announced on Twitter. "I apply the rule: I stay at home to rest and protect others".
Emmanuelle Wargon is the third member of the French government diagnosed positive at Covid-19, after the Minister of Culture Franck Riester and the other Secretary of State for the Ecological Transition, Brune Poirson.
This announcement caused a cascade of negative reactions on social networks, where many Internet users pointed out that many French people could not be tested.
A spokeswoman for Emmanuelle Wargon said Sunday evening that "the minister's husband (emergency doctor and in contact with patients since the beginning of the epidemic)" had "returned Saturday evening from the hospital with symptoms (fever, cough, fatigue) ".
"Upon awakening, the minister presented the same symptoms. This morning, accompanying her husband who was going to be tested at the hospital, it was considered useful to test her too," the spokesman continued.
