The driver was rushing at him. A police officer shot a motorist this Sunday during a roadside check to ensure compliance with the confinement rules in Cagnes-sur-Mer (Alpes-Maritimes). The facts occurred on a large artery of the city, around 10 am, said Fabienne Atzori, prosecutor of the Republic of Grasse.

"During this check, the driver stopped, had a brief chat with a police officer before suddenly starting off by going to a police officer, according to a witness and the victim himself," notes the magistrate. "According to the witness, the policeman was risking his life," she notes.

The motorist still wanted

The officer then used his weapon, but the driver managed to escape. The magistrate said that the motorist was still wanted this Sunday in the middle of the day.

"These elements suggest that the recalcitrant driver has committed a refusal to comply and intentional violence with a weapon against any person holding public authority," said the prosecutor, who said that she was "very concerned about this type of behavior".

"They are not all as serious, but they show that some people show firm opposition to this type of controls," she notes, stressing that a person had already been tried on Friday in immediate appearance in Grasse for s 'be opposed to a control and that another was referred this Saturday for the same facts.
