Italy decided on Saturday to employ 20,000 new medical and paramedical personnel as part of an exceptional effort to support its health system, in addition to studying the creation of new stone areas to contain the emerging Corona virus.

The measure was part of a series of steps the government adopted during a nightly cabinet meeting that followed the announcement of 49 new deaths.

The move is supposed to increase the number of intensive care beds from 5 to 7,000, an increase of about 50 percent, and double the number of beds in the departments of respiratory and infectious diseases.

The new crew is distributed as follows: 5 thousand specialist doctors, 10 thousand nurses and 5 thousand medical assistants. The government decree allows the employment of retired doctors.

The number of Italians receiving treatment in the intensive care department after suffering Covid-19 reached 462 patients on Friday.
