The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has awarded a contract for the development of the Falcon Junction located between Gulf Street and Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street and Al Ghubaiba, at a cost of 450 million dirhams, and it will be linked with the Al Shandaghah Bridge (Infiniti) from the northern side upon completion of the project.

The Director General of the Authority’s Board of Directors, Matar Mohammed Al Tayer, said that the Falcon Junction Development Project is part of the Shindagha axis development project that has been divided into five phases, extending along Sheikh Rashid Street, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street and Cairo Street for a length of 13 km, and developing Falcon intersection, in providing free traffic movements along the axis of Al-Shindagha (Gulf and port streets), raising the absorptive capacity of Gulf and port streets, raising road efficiency and traffic safety levels, as well as providing entrances and exits to Port Rashid, and providing more parking beneath the new bridge to serve the region. He added: «The project includes the implementation of two bridges along Al Khaleej Street, the first with a length of 750 meters in the northern direction, and the second with a length of 1075 meters in the southern direction, with a capacity of six tracks in each direction, with a capacity of 12 thousand vehicles per hour per direction. The project also includes the construction of a bridge with a single track for a turn-to traffic to the right from Khalid Bin Al-Waleed Street to Al-Khaleej Street with a length of 250 meters, with a capacity of up to 1,600 vehicles per hour, in addition to the construction of a tunnel with a capacity of two tracks for a detour movement to the left from Khaled Bin Al-Waleed Street to Al-Mina Street With a length of 500 meters and a capacity of up to 3200 vehicles per hour, as well as the establishment of a surface intersection controlled by a traffic light linking Gulf Street with Al Ghubaiba Street and Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street. He pointed out that the project also includes paving works, street lighting, traffic systems, and a network Rain water drainage and irrigation systems.

The Shindagha axis development project is one of the largest projects currently implemented by the authority, and its cost is estimated at five billion and 350 million dirhams. Given the magnitude of the project, it has been divided into five phases, of which two phases have been completed, namely the development of Sheikh Rashid Street intersection with Oud Maitha Street (Wafi intersection). ), And the development of the intersection of Sheikh Rashid and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, which included the construction of two bridges on Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street with a capacity of two tracks in each direction, and a bridge from Zabeel Street heading to Sheikh Rashid Street with a capacity of one path, and a tunnel on Sheikh Rashid Street heading towards the intersection of Street Sheikh Rashid with Al Mankhool Street, with a capacity of four tracks in For direction.

Work is currently underway in the implementation of the third phase, which includes six decades, and includes the implementation of each of the Al-Shindagha Bridge (Infiniti), which is characterized by a unique architectural design that will be a unique sign for Dubai globally, the slope of the Infiniti Bridge on the side of Bur Dubai, bridges linking with the Al-Shindagha Tunnel, and the development of Corniche Street and intersections on Gulf Street and the development of the Falcon Junction and the entrances and exits of the Deira Islands at Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Street. The total length of bridges is 8.5 km, the tunnels are 500 meters long, and the surface roads are eight km, and the project includes 10 surface intersections, and the completion of this stage will be at the end of 2022.
