“Given that the bill is aimed at protecting and supporting the Russian language as the state language ... the deputies adopted it in two readings,” the parliament’s news agency quoted the Donetsk news agency as saying.

The changes will come into force after signing by the head of the DPR and publication on the website of the People’s Council.

In early December 2019, the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin proposed making Russian the only official language in the republic.

As noted in the DPR then, the exclusion of the Ukrainian language from the state language does not detract from its importance and does not violate the rights of citizens of the republic.
