  • France: Evicted a train station in Paris after several fires caused by protesters

Twenty-one people were injured on Thursday, one of them seriously, because of the derailment about thirty kilometers from Strasbourg (northeast of France) of a high-speed train (TGV) that was traveling in the direction of Paris. A spokeswoman for the National Railroad Society (SNCF) explained to Efe that the train driver was evacuated in a very serious condition and that among the other injured there is also a reviewer.

The prefecture (Government delegation) said in a statement that, beyond the driver, health services paid attention to another 20 people in a situation of "relative urgency." The accident occurred in the municipality of Ingenheim shortly before 8.00 local (7.00 GMT) when the locomotive left the tracks due to the collapse of the ground for reasons still unknown, said the spokeswoman, who recalled that in recent days it has rained heavily in the zone.

About 300 people were traveling on the train, which covered the route between Colmar and Paris. The impact broke the windows of some cars. Travelers had to be transported by bus to Strasbourg.

The incident caused delays in the TGV between Paris and Strasbourg, since the convoys had to be diverted from the high-speed line to the conventional one. The SNCF has opened an investigation to determine the causes of the accident.
