Uncertainty reigned Monday morning concerning the reopening of the Louvre museum, closed on Sunday in the face of staff fears, who consider themselves threatened by the coronavirus epidemic.

"A meeting of museum officials is underway to decide whether or not to open today," a museum spokesperson said on Monday morning as the establishment, which was due to open normally at 9:00 a.m. closed pending the outcome of the meeting.

Sunday, all the staff present, 300 employees, met in the morning to vote a right of withdrawal "almost unanimously", according to the CGT. This right allows an employee to stop working because of "serious and imminent danger to his life or his health".

Lack of staff, the Paris museum could not open its doors, and did not announce its final closure until late afternoon, leaving visitors at its doors.
