The penalties for those who unlawfully cross the border are harsh. Those already arrested and prosecuted run the risk of four years in prison and € 10,000 in fines.

What does the EU plan look like now?

- The short-term plan is to back up Greece, the EU's border guard down here, with supplies and personnel and what the country needs. But the hardest and toughest questions - how to get a working relationship with Turkey and how to get peace in Syria and the Idlib province - of course, these issues should be addressed in a meeting with the foreign ministers, but this is not a solution to be addressed.
