Zhejiang 100,000 ducks go to Pakistan to kill locusts? Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences: Experts are still exploring!

Earlier media reports said that Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences was planning to arrange 100,000 ducks to rush to Pakistan to eliminate locusts. The Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences announced through the authority of the reporter of the National Taiwan University: "Duck locust control" is just a biological control method being explored by the relevant scientific research team of Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Although "herd ducks control locusts" have been reported before, they are all lack of systematic research, and there are many deficiencies in the actual implementation process. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out systematic research on locust duck control technology, determine the most suitable breed, age and grazing time, etc., establish standardized and standardized locust duck control locust technology, and provide ecologically friendly control measures for locust-affected areas.

The team of Lu Lizhi, director of the Poultry Research Laboratory of Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and a post scientist of the national waterfowl industry technology system, plans to conduct joint research on the control of locust-duck control techniques with Xinjiang Agricultural University, Nanjing Agricultural University and other units. The University of Agriculture and Fisheries also expressed its intention to cooperate with the team for research.

Next, the team will also combine experts in insect ecology, grassland ecology and other fields to control locust effects from different poultry breeds, locust control effects from different breeds of ducks, locust control effects from ducks at different growth stages, and techniques for controlling locusts from ducks. Research on the control effects in different areas, the effects of locust feeding on duck meat and egg quality, locust biological ecology, and the effects of locust duck control on grassland vegetation, etc., to select duck breeds with good adaptability and strong locust control capabilities. Formulate technical specifications for herding duck control of locusts, and carry out timely demonstrations of herding duck control technologies for locusts, and strive to explore a sustainable development path for environmentally friendly biological locust control technologies.
