On February 27, 2015, Russian politician Boris Nemtsov was killed on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky bridge with six shots in the back. He began his socio-political activities in the late 1980s, then becoming a People's Deputy of the RSFSR. During this period, he met the future first president of Russia Boris Yeltsin. In 1991, Nemtsov became governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region and held this post until 1997. In the late 1990s, he joined the opposition, was a co-chair of a number of political movements. In the last years of his life, the politician held the post of deputy of the Yaroslavl Regional Duma. Five people convicted of Nemtsov’s murder were sentenced to 11 to 20 years.
