It is the government that has commissioned the Land Survey to look over the border that extends from the Idefjord in the south to Treriksröset in the north. The work will begin this summer and will be completed in 2024.

- The last time we looked across the border was in the 1980s and a lot has happened since then, says Martin Lidberg, national border commissioner at the Lantmäteriet in a press release.

The Land Survey's mission is to determine where the boundary goes and mark the distance in the terrain. They must also ensure that all landmarks are in good condition.

- It is largely about creating a five meter wide border street by clearing vegetation.
