It is noted that in the hands of the participants are posters with the inscriptions: “Estonia is a concentration camp for journalists”, “Hands off journalists in the Baltic states”.
It is clarified that the purpose of the picket is to draw the attention of the OSCE chairman to the situation with journalists in Estonia.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced the suppression of media freedom and the infringement of the rights of national minorities in the Baltic countries, noting that there it became the norm.
On January 1, the Sputnik Estonia agency went into emergency operation, its employees were forced to terminate their employment with the editorial board due to the threat of criminal prosecution.
Russian Ambassador to Tallinn Alexander Petrov, commenting on the situation with Sputnik Estonia, noted that the situation remains critical and there are no changes for the better.
