A first case of coronavirus was confirmed Tuesday, February 25 in Algeria by an announcement on state television of the Minister of Health, Abderrahmane Benbouzid. He is an Italian national who arrived in the country on February 17.

"They were two at the base and only one tested positive for the coronavirus", explains the correspondent of France 24 in Algeria, Moncef Ait-Kaci. "The patient was immediately transferred to the Institut Pasteur in Algiers because, still according to Abderrahmane Benbouzid, the examinations confirmed the suspect case." The man was placed in quarantine.

"The minister assured that all the necessary and preventive measures have been taken to treat this patient of Italian origin according to the standards and stages which are currently being undertaken in the world", specifies our correspondent. "For the moment, the authorities say they have mastered the situation."
