It is certainly the most decried building in Lyon. Will the Perrache interchange, described as a "wart" or "Blockhouse" by its opponents, and built in the 1970s, one day be wiped off the map? It is in any case the project of Denis Broliquier, outgoing mayor of the 2nd arrondissement of the city and centrist candidate for municipal elections.
As part of the campaign, the elected official presented on Tuesday his "alternative device to the Ring of Sciences" (project consisting in closing the Lyon ring road to the west). First: "bring down the wall of Verdun". Understanding how to shave the Perrache exchange center which prevents linking rue Victor-Hugo to Cours Charlemagne in order to free up 8 hectares on the peninsula and enlarge Place Carnot. Perrache metro station would thus be redeveloped.
A budget of between 700 and 900 million euros
The project, worked in collaboration with an architectural firm, plans to move the existing major traffic lanes bordering the exchange center and bury them underground. This would “free up 6 kilometers of the bank of the Rhône from most of the current car traffic” and “relieve the traffic on the Galliéni bridge and avenue Berthelot”. The budget is estimated between 700 and 900 million euros.
