The number of housing starts started in both Kalmar and Kronoberg counties in 2019 compared with 2018, according to preliminary figures from Statistics Sweden (Statistics Sweden).

At the same time, total housing construction in Sweden decreased by seven percent during the same period. This is what the real estate group OBOS, which includes Myresjöhus and Smålandsvillan, writes in a press release.

In Kalmar County, construction of 1,205 housing units began in 2019, compared with 1,085 housing units in 2018. In Kronoberg County, 1,134 housing units began construction in 2019, compared with 858 homes in 2018.

In 240 of the country's 290 municipalities there is a housing shortage today and according to Boverket's latest forecast, 600,000 new homes need to be built by 2027.
