Markus Virta director

Markus has long experience of directing musicals with, for example, "Like in Heaven" on his track record.

- It is quite common nowadays for people to take films and make them musicals, says director Markus Virta. Again, they started writing musicals for film from the ground up, which is a lot of fun. It's a nice trick to take a story that you know works and put music to it.

Musical language

Markus thinks that musicals are the ultimate art form because it is an art form that appeals to us today. It has a tempo and a musical language that is modern.

- It is the modern opera that we work with. I think it's so wonderfully fun and touching, says Markus.

Monday all week is based on a movie from 1993 and is about a weather reporter who will record a report on the marmot day which is Monday the second of February. The animal is considered to be able to predict when spring will come. A blizzard prevents the report and his team from leaving. When he wakes up the next morning it is still Monday the second of February and also the morning after that.

Why did you choose to direct this particular musical?

- I thought it was an exciting story. It is entertaining and at the same time affecting the end just in terms of researching oneself. And maybe see themselves from other perspectives. Making other decisions and maybe making other choices in your life if you got the chance again, says Markus.
