The Collectif contre l'islamophobie en France (CCIF) has since 2003 identified all actions deemed to be opposed to the Muslim community and the observation is clear: between 2017 and 2019, cases increased by almost 75% in France. An increase that the collective, at the origin of the study, also explains by the position taken by the public authorities.

Whenever a controversy about Islam bursts into the public sphere, it would tend to increase Islamophobic acts, estimates Jawad Bachare, director of the Collective against Islamophobia in France: " An uninhibited and liberated Islamophobic word produces Islamophobic acts in society. "

The peak of anti-Muslim resentment in France in 2019 appears following the attack on the Paris police headquarters during the month of October. Jawad Bachare considers that the government's announcements have contributed to a climate of denigration of Islam.

" What happened in October was that we first talked about an attack, then it was turned into an act, and finally there is no longer a terrorist track, but it did not take much for the government to announce its plan on deradicalization and the question of the Islamist hydra . And all this has led to the establishment of provisions which aim in reality to criminalize a religious practice. When we talk about weak signals, in fact what are we aiming for? We are targeting the practice of religion. "

Particularity of the stigma of this religion, it is women who are the main victims. For the Collective against Islamophobia, they would have suffered almost 70% of Islamophobic acts last year.
