On January 22, a month ago yesterday, the family was waiting for Enrique Pérez, 22, at his home in the Plaza de Cuzco. He had called saying he was coming to eat. But the doorbell rang and it was not Quique's voice . They were two Municipal Police officers who reported a mother who had lost a son, a young woman who had lost her brother and a girl who had lost her boyfriend. The police only told them that he had been killed by a truck at the confluence of the street of Bravo Murillo with the street of La Coruña.

The young man had taken a motorcycle rental at the Antonio de Nebrija University, where he studied Protocol and Organization of Events. It was driving along the bus lane of Bravo Murillo in the direction of Plaza de Castilla. At the height of the street of La Coruña the truck turned to the right. The box hit Quique's motorcycle. The vehicle continued to circulate and one of the wheels passed over its body. At 14.11 hours that day the smartwatch clock reflected how his heart went from 90 to zero beats. The same day of the accident the driver was arrested by the Municipal Police and charged with a crime of reckless manslaughter.

After the days of the initial shock, Enrique's family knew details of the tragedy, which caused them great indignation. His mother says at least two witnesses went to the truck driver to stop and yet continued to press the accelerator. “Two girls started screaming 'stop, stop', but the truck driver kept going, continued turning and after dragging the motorcycle then passed over my son. He was blown up by the truck and died on the spot, ”Carmen, the mother of Quique, tears in tears. «I have a voice that is telling me that I must go ahead and that I have to do something so that measures are taken so that it does not happen to other people and that other mothers do not go through what I am going through», justifies the woman to ask help.

The parents of the deceased youth have launched a public campaign in search of witnesses to clarify what happened . They suspect that the truck driver may be ultimately exempt from any criminal liability. «We have been told by lawyers that in the end this may be a civil matter. It cannot be that someone with a truck takes the life of a 22-year-old by an imprudence. We want justice, that the maximum pain falls to him ”, the woman recounts.

In the place where the fatal outrage occurred, the family has left several memories of Quique (the boots he wore that day) and a contact phone in search of witnesses who were there on Wednesday, January 22 at 14.11 hours . “Several people have called us and everyone tells us the same thing. The truck could have stopped, he was shouted to stop, ”insists the mother.

«We do not want money. We just want him to pay for what he has done. The damage is irreparable, but at least if hard measures are taken against this type of behavior, we can certainly avoid other misfortunes like this, ”insists Carmen.

The relatives say that the judge has decreed the secrecy of the proceedings and that by not having access to their content they intend to provide the testimony of several people who endorse that it was not a mere accident. "There is a girl who called me and told me she was willing to testify," says Carmen. «He saw how the truck hit the motorcycle and how my son jumped off the motorcycle with the blow and she said: 'please stop, you're going to break it. That if you continue you will kill him. ' And he yelled at him and yelled at him, but he passed over, ”his mother says in pain.

«We do not know how the driver would go because everything is in court, but surely it would not go well because where it happened is a super narrow street. To bust a person here you have to go very crazy. The fact is that my son will never come back, ”laments his father.

Recently Quique had organized a party for his parents, since the company they run had turned 25 years old. In that event the young man had recorded an emotional video of gratitude towards his parents. He was the middle of three brothers. The eldest lives in Boston and his intention was to move to Madrid this year so they could live together.

On the altar of flowers, memories and writings of the street of Bravo Murillo there is a phrase that stands out. " There will be justice, I promise you." He is signed by his "little sister."
