Discussions on the text of the pension reform continued Sunday in the National Assembly, but only two amendments were adopted in a week, leaving the door open for the use of 49.3 by the government. On both sides of the Assembly, we accuse ourselves of wanting to arrive at this ultimate option.

Debates continued on Sunday in the National Assembly on pension reform. At the opening of the debates last Monday, the President of the National Assembly Richard Ferrand had also warned that the examination of the text should take place day and night, including weekends, in an attempt to reach the end of the thousands of amendments tabled by the opposition. In one week, only two amendments were adopted.

"This majority and this government never wanted to use 49.3"

Faced with this situation, many deputies have an opinion on 49.3, the article of the Constitution which allows the government to have a text adopted without a vote. In the majority, some assure that it is the only solution to get out of the delaying strategies employed by the opposition. But this idea remains disputed.

"This majority and this government have never wanted to use 49.3. And even today we do not wish to use it," said Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer on Sunday, preferring to accuse rebellious France and the Communist Party of "sabotage".

Opposition denounces overplayed chaos

For its part, the opposition judges that the majority has been overcoming chaos for a few days in order to justify the use of 49.3 before the French.
