Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei expressed his appreciation to the citizens who participated in the Iranian parliamentary elections held two days ago, and described the people's participation as a good response to thwart the plots of the enemies, as he put it.

Khamenei said that his country was the target of psychological warfare, and the planners used all available means, including fear of the spread of a new virus, to prevent citizens from participating in the elections, indicating that the Iranians overcame these attempts by participating in the elections.

He added that the country's enemies oppose elections in Iran, because they do not want to admit that democracy does not contradict religion, stressing that his country must be ready to respond with full force to psychological and media wars targeting Iran.

On Saturday, the Iranian Ministry of Interior announced that preliminary results for the counting of votes in Tehran indicate the progress of the conservative current list headed by former Tehran mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and unofficial reports indicate that the participation rate in Tehran was not high.

Experts expected a large percentage of voters to refrain from participating in the parliamentary elections because of their disappointment with the promises that the government did not fulfill, in light of the Iranians suffering in managing their living affairs in a country whose economy suffers from harsh US sanctions.
