WHO Secretary General of the World Health Organization, Tedros, expressed concern that cases outside of China could not identify the source of the infection, and "the possibility of preventing the spread of international infections is narrowing." He called on each country to take immediate action.

WHO Secretary-General Tedros reminded the public at a press conference in Geneva, Switzerland, that "the number of people infected outside China is relatively low," while confirmed in Iran and Lebanon in the Middle East. "We are concerned about cases where we did not know the source of the infection, whether or not there was any travel history or contact with the infected person."

He added that "the possibilities for preventing the spread of international transmission are becoming narrower. We need to take immediate action before the possibility is completely cut off." He called for urgent reinforcement of measures, including financial assistance for WHO measures.

Tedross also said that an international research team led by the WHO will enter Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, where the infection will be most severe, on the 22nd.
