An 85-year-old man killed his 81-year-old wife who lived with him in a residence for the elderly in Drôme, we learned from a judicial source on Friday, confirming information from France Bleu and the Dauphiné Libéré .
The victim, "fairly severely disabled", would have died "by suffocation", said the Valencia prosecutor's office, which awaits the results of the autopsy for confirmation. The man then attempted suicide "by cutting deeply, with a knife, at the wrists and one foot," according to the same source. A homicide investigation was opened, entrusted to the gendarmes.
A letter in which he announced his intentions
According to the Valencia prosecutor, the man had written a letter in which he expressed his desire to kill his wife and then end his life.
Since the beginning of the year, at least ten women have been killed by their partner or ex-partner, according to an AFP count which does not include this case. In 2019, AFP identified at least 126 cases, an average of one woman every three days.
