The young woman accused of stabbing her baby in Madrid just after giving birth has admitted to the trial that caused the girl's death. "Yes, yes, it was me," he confessed in tears and with a broken voice, in a statement of just five minutes in which, he said, he does not remember what happened.
Only to questions from his lawyer, Sonia BA, 20, has assured at the Provincial Court of Madrid not to remember how the events occurred the morning of February 20, 2018, when he ended the life of the girl, whose pregnancy or her then boyfriend, with whom she has a child in common, not even the relatives were aware.
"I do not remember what happened, I only know that I have lost it, I am very sorry, sorry," he said before the popular jury, consisting of eight men and three women, who judges him for some facts for which the Prosecutor's Office requests 22 years in prison for murder with the aggravating relationship.
The Public Ministry maintains that the defendant had just reached the age of majority when she stabbed the baby in a house in Alcalá de Henares about five in the morning.
Sonia BA, who said she receives psychological treatment in the jail where she remains in provisional prison, stabbed the baby up to nine times with a knife before cleaning the blood with paper towels, showering and going to bed.
For the defense of the young woman, acquittal is of interest because she considers that she committed the crime in the middle of a psychotic outbreak without being fully responsible for what she was doing and claims, if there is a conviction, the incomplete exemption for a serious depression.
The defendant has followed the view next to her lawyer with her head in her hands, without looking up while the parties interrogated her mother and the relatives of her ex-wife as witnesses, with whom she lived during the week from Monday to Thursday.
Both the defendant's mother and his ex-boyfriend and his mother have said they ignored the pregnancy.
Her mother has highlighted that she noticed her changed after a fall with a bicycle: "She didn't answer, she slept on the floor, talked with the mirror and said she saw a black shadow that called her."
The one who was her boyfriend has labeled "shock" the moment in which her mother called to tell her that she had found a deceased baby in the backpack, on the chair in the room and in which the girl used to carry her things.
He did not know, as he said, that his partner, accustomed to wear a belt to train and wear wide clothes, as he did while pregnant with his first child, was pregnant.
"If he had told me, I am sure it would not have happened," said the boy, who the young woman assured him was the father of the girl, but a paternity test ruled it out.
The boy's mother has reported that on the day of the events he saw nothing strange when he went to work around five at night, only that the young woman had complained of a gut pain.
According to the woman, who returned from work in the afternoon, she told him she thought she had a hemorrhage and it wasn't until two days later that she was taken to the hospital. "I was down, did not talk much, got up to eat, not willingly," he described.
The afternoon of admission he returned to the house to prepare clothes in case the next morning he was discharged and it was his daughter who opened the backpack, full of bags with a "weird touch", which instantly gave off a smell that forced them to open the window.
