The State of Qatar, represented in the Shura Council, signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations to enhance cooperation in the field of combating terrorism.

The memorandum was signed by the President of the Qatari Shura Council, Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, and Vladimir Vorenkov, Under-Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for Counter-Terrorism.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding signed yesterday at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the two parties will discuss arrangements to establish an office for the United Nations program to combat terrorism in Doha, as part of a joint initiative to enhance cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

The memorandum, signed in the presence of officials of the United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, seeks to achieve the active participation of parliamentarians from all parts of the world in combating terrorism and violent extremism, and implementing the United Nations counter-terrorism strategy in a balanced manner.
