Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - A bronze statue weighing 400 kilograms and two meters high has been stolen in Rio de Janeiro. The figure of the monument in honor of the first president of Brazil, Marechal Deodoro, was the politician's mother. Deodoro ruled the South American country between 1889 and 1891. There was a gap in the photos where the figure was. The memorial was damaged and the fixtures were obviously removed. The monument is regularly the target of thefts. The thieves probably want to melt the prey and sell the bronze.
