The man, who was struck with a hammer last week in Saint-Priest, near Lyon, died on Tuesday. A third suspect has been arrested and must be referred this Wednesday on a letter rogatory as part of a procedure which is now continuing under the qualification of "murder", indicates this Wednesday at 20 minutes the prosecutor's office of Lyon.

A criminal investigation was originally opened for attempted murder last week. Two adult men were arrested on February 8, four days after the assault. They were indicted for "attempted murder", the victim then being between life and death, and placed in pre-trial detention, adds the Lyon prosecutor's office.

A settlement of accounts at the origin

On February 4, between 4 and 5 individuals broke into a building in Saint-Priest, decided to discover one with one of the residents. Armed with a hammer, they allegedly ransacked the door of an apartment, that of the mother of the man in question, with whom he lives. According to our information, the latter, panicked, then called one of her elders, who went there with a loved one, the victim.

The two men are said to have tried to restore calm and reason with the attackers before being hit by a rain of blows. The victim, who did not know his attackers, was around 30 years old. Married, he had just had a second child, says Le Progrès.
