Last week came information about how many notifications and comments have been received about bus drivers who have lost focus during driving. Of a total of about 3,000 in Sweden in 2019, one-third, ie just over 1,000 applications for Western Sweden.

A statement by Jarl Samuelsson, business unit manager at Västtrafik, that passengers can report the drivers to the police to stop the problem caused Kommunal to respond critically, which means that they lack support from Västtrafik and want a direct dialogue with the company.

Agrees with earlier statement about police report

Västtrafik's Chairman of the Board Peter Hermansson (M) emphasizes that he agrees with the business unit manager on Västtrafik Jarl Samuelsson's statement if police reports from the public may sometimes be needed to stop bus surfing.

- I was both surprised and shocked by Kommunal's statement on Monday, which I feel is that they defend the few drivers who do not act, says Peter Hermansson Västtrafik's Chairman of the Board. I believe that the vast majority of bus drivers are working to perfection, but also that road safety is the highest priority and that the drivers who are bus surfers must be stopped.

What do you think the Municipal calls for a dialogue directly with Västtrafik?

- We have our dialogue with the traffic companies, who in turn have employer responsibility towards the Municipal and who have easier to handle the issue in a concrete way, says Peter Hermansson (M). This is how communication is to take place, with a clear division of responsibilities.

Over 1000 notifications / comments about bus surfing to Västtrafik for 2019. How do you see the amount?

- Hard to answer, if it is because we have a higher tendency to report or if it is a regrettable attitude question on the part of the drivers and what the inappropriate behavior is due, I can not answer, says Peter Hermansson. But it is not defensible, and we realize that we have a strong uphill that we have to climb up to find a solution to the problem.
