The Tunisian presidency announced Saturday that its delegate to the United Nations, Al-Bafi Al-Ba’ati, who was relieved of his duties, made a “grave diplomatic mistake” represented in distributing a document that will be adopted to crystallize an international draft resolution to condemn the US peace plan in the Middle East without consulting with the authorities of his country and Arab countries.

"This is a huge diplomatic mistake," said Rachida El-Niefer, advisor to the Tunisian president in charge of media and communication, and continued, "Professional mistakes he made, mainly in the absence of coordination and consultation first with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with the rest of the members of the Arab group that nominated Tunisia for membership in the Security Council."

Al-Nifer denied that there was "pressure" from the American administration to dismiss al-Baati.

A source said that Al-Ba’ati went further than the Tunisian authorities wanted in the Middle East file, and gave great support to the Palestinians threatening to spoil the relationship between Tunisia and the United States.

On Friday, the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the dismissal of its delegate to the United Nations, Al-Munif Al-Ba’ati, from his duties, explaining its decision of “poor performance and lack of coordination” with it in matters that it described as “important”.
