Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said that US President Donald Trump's plan for peace in the Middle East was formulated by the aggressor and is unfair and unfair, and will only lead to apartheid and empower the occupying power. The emergency meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Union, held in Jordan, will discuss the position on the American plan.

Mahathir demanded - at the opening of the third conference organized by the Association of "Parliamentarians for Jerusalem" in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur - to implement the United Nations Charter on the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people, and warned of silence on the practice of ethnic cleansing by Israel.

On January 28, Trump announced his administration's plan to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and included the establishment of a Palestinian state in the form of an archipelago linked by bridges and tunnels controlled by Israel, and its capital in parts of East Jerusalem, while making occupied Jerusalem the alleged capital of Israel.

Mahathir pointed out that the plan prepared by the Trump administration with Israel does not bring any solution for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, adding that Malaysia considers this offer unacceptable and very unfair.

Al-Ahmad Call
In a speech to the conference, Azzam Al-Ahmad, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, called on countries that have not yet recognized the state of Palestine to accelerate recognition, support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem, and lift the siege on the Palestinian territories in Gaza and the West Bank.

In a related context, the emergency meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Union - at the invitation of the Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament, Atef Tarawneh - will discuss the position of Arab parliaments on the American peace plan.

Al-Tarawneh stressed in a press statement the importance of unifying the Arab parliamentary position in rejecting any settlement that undermines the Palestinian right, foremost among which is the establishment of an independent state and the right of return and compensation to refugees.

On the other hand, 107 deputies from the American Democratic Party sent a message to President Trump, expressing their strong opposition to his peace plan and considered it a prelude to a permanent occupation of the West Bank and the Jordan Valley.
