Lawyer Isa bin Haider, the representative of the Emirati young woman, Rawda Al-Muaini, who was the victim of a serious medical error that left her permanent disabilities, revealed the expiration of the period of appeal by the defendants' defense in the report of the Supreme Committee for Medical Liability, which is limited to 30 days.

Bin Haider told «Emirates Today» that the report was crucial and prepared by about 10 senior doctors, and the defendants ’defense did not challenge him, pointing out that in the next session, the defendants’ defense is to be witnessed in the case, which is one of the doctors participating in the report, considering it a desperate attempt To reduce the size of the error by catching a vulnerability, but this is difficult in light of the quality of the medical report and the court procedures taken by the Public Prosecution. He stressed that the health authorities in Dubai and the state are making an effort to reduce these errors, but it is necessary to tighten the preventive control to avoid these excesses, especially in the field of cosmetics.

In detail, Bin Haider said that there are a number of errors that marred the operation that the young female citizen, Rawda Al-Muaini, had experienced, which caused her complete disability as a result of supposedly simple one-day surgeries.

The report of the Supreme Committee for Medical Responsibility concluded that the surgeon and anesthesiologist committed a grave mistake in the right of the appointee, and they bear full responsibility for the health damages and serious complications that occurred to them. The report also held the medical center part of the responsibility.

Bin Haider explained that Al-Muaini was the victim of a deception and not just a medical mistake, as she conducted the first interview with the doctor in a prominent center that strengthened her confidence that she would receive the necessary care and perform the surgery in a suitable place with the utmost security and safety, but the reality was different, as it was found that the center The doctor specified, is not appropriate at all and is a small operating rooms, and the elevators themselves are not intended for medical centers and cannot carry a medical bed in an emergency.

The investigations of the Public Prosecution revealed that the events of the incident began last April, when the victim felt difficulty breathing through her nose, so she sought the first suspect (ENT) who examined her, and diagnosed her condition as having a deviation in her nasal septum, and she needed surgical intervention She was rhinoplasty, and set her appointment for surgery on April 23, at one of the one-day surgery centers not prepared for this type of surgery, in the presence of the second accused (anesthesiologist), and the third (assistant anesthesia technician).

Bin Haider stated that there is an urgent need to monitor these centers before the disaster occurred and not after it, pointing out that plastic surgery has turned into a trade, whether in terms of exaggerated prices, or in terms of human rehabilitation, there are doctors who practice them without criteria and some of them flee after committing mistakes.

He pointed out that there are several cases that he dealt with, such as the case of a broadcaster in the early days of his career, he performed cosmetic dental surgery, and he suffered dangerous consequences until he could not pronounce two letters and lost his professional life.

He pointed out that he dealt with issues related to fatal errors such as the case of a woman who was injected with a prohibited substance at the back but the operation failed, so one side grew, while another remained in a condition, until she had severe complications, she could no longer sit or practice her life normally, and the doctor who performed the surgery died .

Tighter penalties

Lawyer Isa bin Haider stated that medical errors occur all over the world, but it is necessary to tighten penalties, especially with regard to compensation so that the wrongdoers are deterred, demanding that there be clear requirements regarding cosmetic operations, and limit them to restoration or cosmetic operations after accidents or other surgeries , With the need to inform the patient of the consequences of these surgeries, because some begin a journey that does not end in plastic clinics.
