"Thankfully, I have no serious physical injuries," says Aram Rasul, showing off the transplanted arms and bandage around his nose. The face was thrown against the chair in front when the plane fell 30-40 meters and hit the ground.

The plane was divided into three parts. - A person flew over me at the crash. He then got stuck between me and the person next to him. It was blood, smoke, smelled gasoline and many were screaming in panic, says Aram Rasul at a hotel in Istanbul near the accident site, where SVT meets him.

"It was chaotic, completely indescribable"

Aram Rasul, a doctor, helped several injured passengers immediately after the crash. Then he and other passengers climbed out of the opening where the plane that was torn apart. The plane was split just two rows behind Aram Rasul's seat in the aircraft.

- I sat on line 24 and the plane tore apart on line 26. It was so chaotic, completely indescribable. The biggest fear was that it would start to burn, he says.

After the crash, Aram Rasul was treated for minor injuries in hospital in Istanbul. He has also been assisted by the Swedish Consulate with practical questions.

- I lost my passport in all the chaos. The only thing I thought about was saving others and myself.

He recently recovered the passport and a portion of the luggage, which was found on the aircraft wreck.

- All my clothes smell like airplane gasoline. But they have at least given me a new suitcase, since the former was almost completely torn from the crash.

Question security routines

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. The case is now being investigated by Turkish authorities. Many have questioned the safety practices of Pegasus Airlines, whose aircraft suffered repeated similar accidents.

- There were very turbulent winds when we went down for landing. Just before landing, it felt like the pilot hesitated and tried to lift again, says Aram Rasul.

On board the plane were 177 passengers and six crew members. The three dead passengers were Turkish citizens. Among the injured were citizens from 22 different countries. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aram Rasul is the only Swedish citizen.

Now Aram Rasul is waiting to fly home to Stockholm.

- It was unfortunate that it did not go any worse than it did. But it was still a very tragic experience, says Aram Rasul.
