The United States requested a closed session of the UN Security Council next Thursday to present a proposal from Jared Kushner, an adviser to US President Donald Trump and his son-in-law on the US peace plan, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to speak to the Security Council next week, as part of Palestinian moves to counter the US plan.

The French Press Agency quoted diplomatic sources as saying that Washington wants to present its plan announced by President Trump and listen to the positions of the other 14 members of the Council.

The closed meeting will be held a few days before the expected Palestinian President's arrival in New York on Tuesday, February 11, to assure the members of the Security Council of the Palestinian side's rejection of the American plan and demanding the application of international law to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The American peace plan includes the establishment of a connected Palestinian state in the form of an archipelago connected by bridges and tunnels controlled by Israel, while making occupied Jerusalem the alleged unified capital of Israel, while the capital of the future Palestinian state will be established in the town of Abu Dis (East Jerusalem).

Trump's plan proposes annexing all of Israel to settlements in the West Bank, as well as the Jordan Valley in the east of the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967.

Draft resolution
Palestinian officials stated that during the visit of President Abbas, a draft resolution would be submitted to the Security Council, to be submitted by Tunisia as the non-permanent Arab member of the Council, and the content of the draft was not known.

The Palestinian Foreign Minister, Riyad Al-Malki, stated two days ago that the Palestinian leadership will depend on the outputs of the meeting of Arab foreign ministers, who rejected the US plan to win support from Islamic countries at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation meeting in Jeddah on Monday.

The Palestinian leadership is also expected to participate in an African Union summit in order to obtain a position that supports the Palestinian people's rejection of the American plan.

Minister Al-Maliki added that the Palestinian side requested a meeting at the level of the Non-Aligned Movement, and there will also be a meeting with foreign ministers of European Union countries.

In a statement issued last Saturday, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon announced that he is participating in a campaign by the United Nations to persuade its members not to support any Palestinian action that opposes the plan.

"Mahmoud Abbas must understand that speeches in New York will not lead to resolving the conflict between Jerusalem and Ramallah. The international community must recognize that Abbas is the only one who opposes peace," the Israeli ambassador said.
