The Turkish Religious Affairs Presidency honored five deaf people who memorized the Holy Qur’an in sign language in the state of Hakkari (southeast of the country), and sent them on an Umrah trip to the Holy Land.

Five out of seven Deaf people at the Hakkari Memorization Institute in Hakkari were able to complete memorization and receive religious lessons within four years.

The five deaf people completed the memorization of the Noble Qur’an by the Imam of the Central Municipal Mosque Yassin Akshan, who volunteered to teach the Deaf the Holy Qur’an and other religious lessons, such as biography and jurisprudence, in sign language.

Speaking to Anatolia, the imam of the mosque said that he learned sign language through an institute for religious affairs in 2015, after which he would begin teaching deaf religious science and memorizing the Holy Quran.

He explained that their journey with the five deaf people in memorizing the Noble Qur’an started in 2016, to complete memorization at the end, and realize their dream of performing Umrah.

In turn, the deaf Hafiz Awais Ashqan expressed his thanks to the Presidency of Religious Affairs for honoring them with their Umrah trip.

He praised the Holy Quran Memorization Course for the Deaf, expressing his thanks to his teacher, Imam Al-Jami, for the efforts he made in order to teach them.
