Under headings that "inspire climate smart choices", "halve the climate impact from work machines" and "phase out fossil plastics", companies, municipalities and organizations promise to increase their environmental ambitions. The idea is to reduce climate change emissions and make energy use more efficient. For example, Uppsala's largest private employer, the medical company GE Healthcare, makes large investments in ozone purification of distilled water and district cooling.

- If we have a good environmental mindset, we get competitive advantages, says Per Pantefors, operations manager at GE Healthcare in Uppsala.

The organizations have voluntarily decided on the various measures, which are intended to be a tool in climate work. Collaborations between different actors are the big gain, according to Anna Karlsson, climate and energy coordinator at the County Administrative Board, who took the initiative for the sustainability promises.

- Through this, different actors can find each other and start collaborating. We can help with meetings, but we don't need to. It can be a self-playing piano, she says.

Puts pressure

The measures will be implemented during 2019-2022. There are no sanctions for companies that do not meet the targets, but the cooperation still puts pressure on measures. This is what Frida Johnsson, sustainability strategist at Tierp Municipality, believes, among other things, which promises more investment in vegetarian food in the municipality's operations.

- We want to show citizens, companies and other municipalities that we take climate issues seriously, says Frida Johnsson.
