The reversal came after The New York Times reported on information in John Bolton's upcoming book, in which Trump's former security adviser claims that the president withheld money for military aid to Ukraine. This is to pressure Ukraine to hire former US Vice President Joe Biden and his son.

Withheld money

According to Bolton, Trump should have withheld SEK 3.7 billion in military support to force a transparency of Biden's business.

And the new information could become an explosive element in the national court case that is ongoing against the US president. Trump's defense is based, among other things, on the fact that the cessation of support for Ukraine had nothing to do with the request for the investigation.

President Trump rejects the information.

John Bolton, who was appointed as security advisor in September 2019, has said he is willing to testify in the process. But Republican members have been reluctant to allow witnesses to appear in the Senate, where they have a majority.

Republicans are changing

However, the new tasks have prompted several senators to rethink. One of them is the former presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

- I think the story that came out yesterday makes it clear that it's important to hear what John Bolton has to say.
