The art park in Köpmanholmen came to 2014 and in the restoration they tried to recreate the park that existed when the Hedberg family worked in Köpmanholmen during the first half of the 20th century.

To give visitors an extra experience, a number of works of art have been placed in the park, which has become a popular excursion destination with around 15,000 visitors in 2019.

High levels of dioxin

At the same time, the area is partly located on old industrial land and environmental toxins have been discovered, including high levels of dioxin at a popular barbecue area. The gifts come from the industrial era when there was a sawmill adjacent to Herrgårdsparken.

Barbecue area was closed

The barbecue area was closed in the summer of 2019 and Örnsköldsvik Municipality warns about the gifts on its website. According to the county administrative board, there is a risk of exposure of the poisons in the contaminated parts of the area and the risk to humans and animals is assessed as moderate.

At the same time, the responsible manager does not consider it dangerous to visit the art park.

- In my opinion, staying in Herrgårdsparken is risk-free, says Katarina Larsson, head of unit at Örnsköldsvik Municipality.
