  • Since July 14, 2016, thousands of Niçois have suffered from post-traumatic stress symptoms.
  • The CoBTeK Lab is developing a mobile application to relieve them during their crises.
  • The project was awarded in the "Mental Health Challenge" category of the "Challenge for a Nice life" competition and will be presented on Tuesday 28 January at the AgeingFit congress.

Get out of your house, wander the streets, take public transport. Since the attacks of July 14, 2016 in Nice, these actions have become ordeals for thousands of Niçois.

To help them react when symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PST) appear, a team from the CoBTeK research laboratory at the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis is developing a mobile application called Mood Up !.

“In general, when a person goes through an anxiety attack, they experience it alone. The application is there to support it thanks to three methods: relaxation via the broadcasting of short films, hypnosis and cardiac coherence ”, explains André Quaderi, project leader and EMDR psychotherapist.

In order to scientifically validate the effectiveness of Mood Up!, Three theses are carried out by doctoral students Pauline Pennetier, Jennifer Dainesi and Manon Baud. Their work will give rise to scientific publications.

"An extremely large user audience"

Initiated in February 2019, Mood Up! drew the attention of the Fondation de France, as part of the “Challenge for a Nice life” competition initiated by the city of Nice. "This project stood out because it is the one that highlights technological innovation and e-health the most," said Mélanie Hubault, member of the jury.

"It also meets the needs of an extremely large audience, whether they are victims of post-traumatic stress disorder, or their loved ones who do not always know how to react," adds the person in charge of the victim assistance program. "Together against terrorism" of the Fondation de France. The state of post-traumatic stress does not only concern the victims of an attack, Mood Up! can also help victims of physical or sexual violence, psychological harassment, domestic or traffic accidents, or traumatic grief.

Another argument which convinced the jury: "the resource center integrated into the application which directs towards care structures".

"And then, there are applications in the same style in the United States but not in France and in French," concludes the representative of the philanthropic organization which participated in the financing of Mood Up! up to € 50,000.
