According to the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, it has started registering patients who need organs, according to the second phase of the “Hayat” application for organ donation, which was launched yesterday, and revealed that the application has registered to date 59 patients in need of organs, and 2605 donors, while the stage is The third is in the possibility of aligning the members of the donors with the beneficiaries, using artificial intelligence techniques, according to the director of the Department of Public Health Policies at the Ministry, Dr. Lubna Al Shaali.

She explained to «Emirates Today» on the sidelines of the Arab Health Exhibition and Conference, yesterday, that the third stage of the project will provide the ability to identify and select the appropriate member for each patient, through the smart matching feature, according to which the data entered will be compared to donors and patients, which contain the “DNA” and “HLA” for each patient, which limits the chances of the patient’s body rejecting the organ, and the identification is determined by analyzing the DNA and tissues, and then provides a lot of effort and tests that would have been done to determine the suitability of each member of the patient.

She emphasized that the third stage of application is the procedure of matching tissue through artificial intelligence between the donor and the patient, which limits the chances of the patient's body rejecting the organ, and the identification is determined by analyzing the DNA and tissues, indicating that work will begin on the third stage after completing the matching procedures Tissue during the current year.

She noted that the "Hayat" application works using blockchain technology and artificial intelligence, and ensures the confidentiality of information for patients and donors, and the project was implemented in three stages. The first stage launched last year was the registration of donors, which allowed anyone in the country to donate its organs, The second stage that was launched yesterday, which is the patient registration phase, whereby hospitals register patients who need transplants, and the third stage is to align patients ’patients with donors.

She mentioned that there are five accredited organ transplant hospitals in the country, namely Dubai Hospital, Al Qasimi, Mediclinic City, Cleveland, and Al Jalila Children's Hospital.

She revealed that Dubai Hospital recorded eight cases in need of organ transplantation, Al Qasimi has three cases, Mediclinic City has eight cases, and Cleveland has 31 cases, while Al Jalila Hospital has registered nine cases for nine children.

According to the Ministry’s statistics, the total members donated within the program were 21% college, 20% liver, 21% heart, 19% lung, and 19% pancreas.
