The Misdemeanor Court in Ras Al-Khaimah commenced the trial of an African youth accused of laundering money in the amount of 696 thousand and 210 dirhams, and obtaining it illegally without providing documents indicating how he obtained it.

The indictment stated that the accused deposited in his account an amount of 696 thousand and 210 dirhams, and the issuance of checks in large amounts, despite being a sales employee with a salary of 5,000 dirhams, and the accused did not mention the source of the funds or provide documents on the source of these funds.

The accused denied the charges attributed to him, and stated that he issued a check to a company’s account because of the presence of trade between them in the field of tires, explaining that these funds belong to his friend who resides in an African country, and he wants to buy and send tires to him, and that he issued a check from his account with a value of 686 thousand And 70 dirhams to a private company, as a payment of the agreed tire purchase.

The case details stated that the Organized Crime Department of the Department of Criminal Investigations and Investigations in Ras Al-Khaimah Police received a report from the Central Bank stating the existence of a suspicious transaction related to a money-laundering suspicion of 696 thousand and 210 dirhams entered and exited from the defendant's personal account.

The report pointed out that a investigation team has been formed to investigate the account owner's data and show the existence of suspicious transactions represented in suspicion of money laundering for the transactions carried out by the accused, because he opened an account in a bank under the pretext of transferring his monthly salary of five thousand dirhams, where it was found that there are large financial deposits Corresponding to his monthly income, which was done through an ATM within two days.

He added that the defendant issued checks to redeem the amount, and that all financial operations took place within five working days even though the reason for opening the account was his monthly salary transfer, and the defendant did not provide any documents that could be relied upon to verify the legitimacy of the funds.

A banking expert seconded by the Public Prosecution stated that the accused carried out banking operations within a short period not exceeding five working days, which consisted of depositing cash through an ATM within two days, at a value of 383 thousand and 940 dirhams, at the rate of four cash deposits.

He explained that it was revealed through the account statement that the accused issued two checks worth 686 thousand and 70 dirhams to a private tire trading company, and issued a check to another company worth 312 thousand and 270 dirhams.
