An earthquake of magnitude 6.8 occurred in the eastern province of Turkey, Elazig in the evening of January 24 and was felt throughout the country. After the earthquake, 35 tremors with a magnitude of 2.7 to 5.4 were recorded.

Russian President Vladimir Putin in a telegram to Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the earthquake.
