Former leader of the Ivorian rebellion and ex-Prime Minister Guillaume Soro, who is the subject of an arrest warrant on the accusation of having prepared "a civil and military insurrection", filed a complaint in Paris against the Abidjan prosecutor, said his lawyers on Thursday 23 January.

"The lawyers of Mr. Guillaume Soro (...) have filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor of Paris (...) for acts of illegal capture of private life, illegal distribution, illicit editing and attempted trial scam, "according to his communications firm, which also forwarded the certificate of complaint filed on Wednesday.

Accused of insurrection

Former Prime Minister and former President of the National Assembly, Guillaume Soro, who announced his candidacy for the presidential election in October 2020, had attempted on December 23 to return to Côte d'Ivoire, after six months abroad. But after learning that he was the subject of an arrest warrant, Soro flew back to Europe. Several of his relatives, including deputies, were later arrested.

"This complaint follows the broadcast of a recording by the public prosecutor, Richard Adou, during a press conference at the Abidjan court of first instance, on December 26 and which motivated the latter to issuance of an international arrest warrant against Mr. Guillaume Soro, "the statement said.

According to the certificate dated January 22, Guillaume Soro lodged a complaint "against X" and against the prosecutor Richard Adou but also against three other people whom he suspects of having participated in the recording of his conversations.

Long ally of President Alassane Ouattara, whom he helped bring to power during the post-electoral crisis of 2010-2011, Guillaume Soro then fell out with him, until the break in early 2019.

Guillaume Soro, a figure in Ivorian political life and popular among the youth, aimed to shake up the Ivorian political chessboard for the presidential election of 2020.
