The redevelopment of the E22 is a billion investment. Just the 15-kilometer stretch past Tollarp is expected to cost SEK 780 million.

As early as the 1990s, the decision-making process for how and when the road would be rebuilt began. Since then, the route has changed, among others in Hurva, Rolsberga and most recently in Linderöd. In Tollarp, the new road is ready in May 2021.

- We are rebuilding to make traffic safer. There will then be fewer accidents for everyone who travels the road, says Michael Sjöland, project manager at the Swedish Transport Administration. This current road is an accident-prone road, so we hope that this will change with the reconstruction.

Dangerous goods are led around

The new road will be faster to drive as road users do not have to slow down as they pass the community.

- You earn five, six minutes on the new route and you also get a smooth stretch of road, says Michael Sjöland.

Trucks carrying dangerous goods can become fatal if a traffic accident occurs. This is something you want to avoid in residential environments where children and young people are close by.

- We have a lot of transport and dangerous goods on all European roads. If there is a traffic accident and a truck overturns, it will have fatal consequences if we have housing nearby, says Michael Sjöland.
