Some 500 kilograms of cocaine were discovered in a shipment of bananas from Colombia on Friday at the Rungis market (Val-de-Marne), leading to the opening of a judicial investigation, we learned from concordant sources.

The importance of this discovery led the specialized interregional jurisdiction (Jirs) of Paris to seize the opened procedure for "importation of narcotics in organized gang", "drug trafficking" and "association of criminals", indicated the parquet floor from Paris.

A precedent in 2010

Semmaris, the market manager, said cocaine had been found in a shipment of bananas from Colombia, confirming information from the Parisian . The investigations were entrusted to Ofast, an office recently created to be the leader in the fight against drug trafficking to replace the Central Office for the Suppression of Illegal Drug Trafficking (Ocrtis), whose reputation had been marred by scandals.

This discovery echoes that of 25 kilograms of "white" in 2010 in Rungis, already in the middle of pallets of bananas from Colombia. The Rungis National Interest Market (MIN) is the largest fresh produce market in the world. It covers 234 hectares, seven kilometers from the gates of Paris.
