This was reported by the newspaper "Izvestia" with reference to the press service of the department.

The amendments are also planned in other documents that specify the minimum wage, including the Air Code of Russia, the charter of railway transport and some federal laws.

The ministry explained the reason for preparing the amendments by the fact that the concept of the minimum wage has been given a “wider meaning” recently, and therefore clarifications are needed to avoid a double interpretation.

“The minimum wage was used in various branches of the law, including for determining the amount of civil liability obligations,” the department explained.

It is noted that, according to the order of Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, issued in May 2019, the minimum wage should be interpreted only in accordance with the provisions of the law “On the minimum wage”.

At the end of December, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law to increase the minimum wage from January 1, 2020 to 12,130 rubles per month.

On January 15, Putin proposed enshrining the rule in the Constitution that the minimum wage cannot be lower than the subsistence level.
