They denounce "a judicial drama", believing that this "emblematic case" reveals "dysfunctions". Several left-wing deputies Tuesday supported Vincenzo Vecchi, a former Italian activist who was arrested on August 8 in Morbihan after several years of hiding.

Claimed by Italy where he is under the threat of a long prison sentence, Vincenzo Vecchi had been the subject of two European arrest warrants for his participation in demonstrations at the G8 summit in Genoa in 2001 and in Milan in 2006. In November, the Rennes Court of Appeal ordered his release, but the Court of Cassation overturned this decision a month later, and the file is now referred to the Angers Court of Appeal.

François Ruffin sees this as an “echo” with certain situations in France

During a press conference at the National Assembly, the deputy Pierre Dharréville (PCF) said his will “to achieve justice for Vincenzo and for all those who could find themselves in his situation with the application of this European arrest warrant which deserves to be widely reviewed ”. He spoke in the presence of several other elected PCF, LFI or Libertés et Territoires, and members of the support committee of Vincenzo Vecchi.

Among them, the writer Eric Vuillard, 2017 Goncourt Prize, recalled that this case concerned someone "who was arrested because he demonstrated" and risks "twelve years in prison for ill-established facts". This "takes on a somewhat special resonance" in the current atmosphere marked by "a very strong repression of social movements", he added, François Ruffin (LFI) also seeing an "echo" with certain situations in France.
