There are more and more rechargeable cars in the Swedish vehicle park. At the turn of the year, there were around 100,000 electric cars or charging hybrids and in ten years there are forecasts that indicate that there will be up to 2.5 million rechargeable vehicles in Sweden, according to the site elbilsstatistik.se.

- It is talked about that there will be a boom soon. We haven't really seen it yet, but interest is creeping up and that's what we're preparing for, says Mårten Nelson at Jönköping Energi.

Home charging box

The Swedish Electric Safety Authority advises those who regularly charge the electric car at home to obtain a charging box with a so-called type 2 device that can withstand greater load over a longer period of time. These also have iodine fault switches and DC monitoring as an extra security.

Has caused fires

Ordinary wall and engine heater outlets, so-called shock outlets, are not designed for electric car charging and are not able to handle recurring high loads for a long time. Anyone who still charges the car via such an outlet should limit the charge to 8-10 amps and hang the control box in a hook.

An extension cord should also not be used as there is a risk that the fuse will not protect properly. A timer between the socket and the charging cord also involves an increased risk. In Värmland, this caused a fire in a garage. Even in Jönköping County, the rescue service has had a minor fire in connection with charging in a regular electrical outlet.
