Despite all the talk in favor of the environment, "nothing has been done" for the climate, deplored climate activist Greta Thunberg, this Tuesday in Davos (Switzerland), on the occasion of the launch of the Forum global economy.

At a time when companies compete with promises and governments with alarmist speeches, the fight against global warming is at the heart of the discussions at this new meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

"I can't complain about not being heard"

Admittedly, “the climate and the environment are a topical issue today”, but “in practice, nothing has been done”, “the CO2 emissions have not decreased”, hammered the young Swedish girl in front of the big bosses and politicians gathered until Friday in the Swiss ski resort of Graubünden. However, it is not for want of receiving media attention, she said, with a touch of bitterness.

“I can't complain about not being heard. They listen to me all the time, ”said the activist, who has become the global face of youth climate mobilization. Invited to Davos for the second year in a row, the 17-year-old activist will speak again at a round table and will open a session in the afternoon with the unequivocal title: "Avoiding the climatic apocalypse".

The Forum accused of climatic hypocrisy

According to a Greenpeace report published on Tuesday, ten banks regularly present in Davos alone funded between 2015 and 2018 the fossil fuel sector with 1,000 billion dollars.

The Forum itself has sometimes been accused of climate hypocrisy because of the ballet of jets, helicopters and limousines it causes. This year, he is trying to set an example by banning single-use utensils, setting up meatless buffets, offsetting carbon emissions or providing advice on the fuel used for private planes.
